Albireo has established a centralised crewing hub in Manila that currently supports approximately 800 seafarers assigned to around 90 vessels operating worldwide. The organisation oversees the full scope of crewing activities, including recruitment, coordination of training, documentation management and structured career planning. Through this approach, Albireo aims to deliver dependable, modern support to both seafarers and shipowners, enabling efficient deployment, transparent processes and long-term workforce stability while also fostering individual career development for crew members.
“Albireo allows us to align our crewing processes with a unified operational standard and strong team spirit. The integration of our Manila teams ensures consistency in selection, preparation, and ongoing support of seafarers. Being close to our crews and their families remains a top priority.”
– Tim Ponath, CEO of NSB Group.
“Seafarers, our colleagues on board, are key to global logistics and the success of our customers. Albireo provides a clear framework for our crewing activities in the Philippines, ensuring reliable manning and consistent service delivery for shipowners.”
– Nils Aden, Managing Director of Harren Group.
From a ship management perspective, maintaining experienced and well-trained crews is particularly critical for specialised fleets.
“For specialised fleets, it is crucial to maintain a pool of well-trained and experienced Filipino seafarers. With Albireo, we have the opportunity to meet the highest standard.”
– Joachim Zeppenfeld, Managing Director of Harren Ship Management.
The Albireo name is derived from a double star within the Cygnus constellation, traditionally associated with the head of the swan. Its brand colours of orange and blue are intended to represent direction, trust and long-term partnership, reflecting the organisation’s role in connecting seafarers and shipowners.
Leadership of the Manila office is in the hands of seasoned maritime professionals with extensive experience in the Philippine crewing sector. The team is headed by General Manager and President Capt. Vicente Dayo and Operations Manager and Chairman Capt. Thaddeus Bonghanoy, both of whom have spent decades working closely with seafarers and maritime stakeholders in the region.
Capt. Vicente Dayo describes Albireo as a platform designed to foster long-term development and collaboration, with a clear focus on supporting seafarers consistently throughout their careers. He is joined by Thaddeus Bonghanoy, who emphasises that this approach is intended to give shipowners confidence through dependable quality, transparent processes and stable manning.
