250 million dollars Extension and Conversion program for three High-End Small Ship Cruises
The Star Plus Initiative Program, launched by the Windstar Cruises, involves three cruise ships — Star Breeze, Star Legend, and Star Pride. It worth 250 million dollars and three complex activity areas are focused in: installing a 25.6 m (84ft) mid-body section; renewing the propulsion engines and diesel generators for a more environmentally responsible navigation; and substantial modernization of public areas, passenger cabins and open decks.
Star Breeze is the first of the three ships of the Star Plus Initiative Program delivered.
Before the extension and renovation, Star Breeze’s length was 134m (439.6 ft), with a tonnage of approximately 10,000 tons and a capacity of 212 passengers. After transformation, Star Breeze can accommodate more passengers on board.
Features of the transformed Star Breeze

The Fincantieri Shipyard in Italy was closed for some weeks due to the pandemic. Now it has a reduced workforce as to ensure the health and safety of the staff. Therefore, the completion of the ships was delayed. It is expected that Star Breeze will resume sailing in March 2021 whilst Star Pride to resume sailing in Europe in July 2021.
