Milan-based design studio Hot Lab, part of the Viken Group, has released new images showcasing the extensive refit of the 50-metre Heesen superyacht Bijin. Previously known as Sibelle, the vessel changed hands in October 2024, with Burgess representing the buyer and Ocean Independence acting on behalf of the seller.
The yacht’s new name, Bijin, a Japanese word meaning “beautiful woman”, aptly reflects her transformation. Originally delivered in 2015, this full-custom, all-aluminium yacht was celebrated at the 2016 World Superyacht Awards and marked the debut of Heesen’s 50-metre Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) series.
The refit was completed at Monaco Marine in La Seyne-sur-Mer, working closely with the owners, their long-term design partners Hot Lab, Austrian interior specialists List GC, and the crew. Her exterior underwent a dramatic makeover, shifting from oyster white and grey to a bold Matterhorn white and jet black, accented by a distinctive sunfast red boot stripe. In parallel, her interiors were refreshed and her onboard systems enhanced.

When the time came for them to consider a significant transformation of their yacht, it felt natural for them to turn to someone who not only understood their tastes and expectations but also shared their passion for the sea.

Inside, Bijin embraces a refined Japandi aesthetic, a blend of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth. This interior vision was conceived by Hot Lab and realised by List GC. The owner explains:
“The idea was to be surrounded by an organic, naturally blending and appealing design, which would help our guests find relaxation and peace.”
While the yacht was already in excellent condition thanks to her meticulous previous owners, Hot Lab focused on subtle upgrades to elevate her look. As Lumini highlights:
“Our interventions focused on elements such as the beds, headboards, curtains, carpets, and loose furniture. The goal was to provide the yacht with a subtle yet meaningful refresh, rather than a radical overhaul. We aimed for a style that was slightly more fusion, introducing gentle oriental touches, particularly in the design of the headboards.
One of the key changes was the colour palette: we moved towards lighter tones and softer shades of brown, replacing the previous, more pronounced colours. This approach was intended to create a sense of freshness and clarity throughout the interiors, making the spaces feel more open and inviting, while still retaining the yacht’s original elegance.”
Key lifestyle features include an expansive sundeck that can welcome large groups of guests and a sociable upper deck bar that doubles as a focal point for relaxation. Accommodation for 10 is provided, with a standout owner’s suite that features two generous his-and-hers bathrooms, creating a private and indulgent retreat.

Now renamed and revitalised, Bijin will serve her owners both privately and on the charter market. True to her allure, she is already fully booked for her debut season in the West Mediterranean.
