MTB Events had the opportunity to visit the Etihad Engineering facility in Abu Dhabi this November. The tour was led by esteemed MTB Aviation delegate Sami Maalouf, Manager of Component Services Sales, who informed and educated us on the many accomplishments and innovations that Etihad Engineering take pride in.

Etihad Engineering’s world class facilities

The Etihad Engineering (EYEng) facility occupies 545,000sqm in total, of which 200,000 are devoted to hangar and apron space that can accommodate nine widebody lines, three A380s simulataneously, two aircraft paint hangars, and component shops. As a one-stop shop, they offer a wide range of services to their customers, including, heavy maintenance, full rebranding campaigns and modifications (interior and exterior), Design & Engineering under Part 21G and J, CAMO services which can all be complimented by the onsite Etihad Engineering Technical Training facility as well under Part 147.

With 13 fully equipped component shops and around 2000 committed, knowledgeable, and proficient employees, EYEng is now recognised as the largest provider of component repair services and a centre of excellence in the area. The majority of Airbus and Boeing components fall under their scope due to certification from the EASA, FAA, UK CAA, and UAE GCAA.

Every year, the component services business unit ships over 30,000 components from its numerous shops to clients including Etihad and other parties.

Nurturing customer relationships

Etihad Engineering is proud of the “no shortcut flexibility” that makes it stand out as an exceptional provider in the industry. When receiving customer feedback, communication and responsiveness typically garner the highest ratings. With a dedicated Customer Focus team, they are committed to going above and beyond seeking answers and establishing a good rapport and trust with each of their clients.

Customers value competitive prices and quick turnaround times, but Etihad Engineering’s flexibility and comprehension of their client’s demands and circumstances are additional offered by the Middle East’s largest aircraft MRO solutions provider. The company maintains a positive reputation in the market due to its comprehensive range of solutions under one roof, high standards of quality, outstanding workmanship, and customer-focused service. Because of this, OEMs and manufacturers find Etihad Engineering attractive to work with, collaborate with, and partner with.

Strategic geographic location

The state-of-the-art Etihad Engineering facility is situated in a region that connects the East and West and is easily accessible from anywhere in the world. They have the ideal formula for success when combining the location with their high standards. Operators, flag carriers, OEMs, parts dealers, leasing firms, etc. are just a few of the company’s clientele. While third-party customers from around the world constitute a major part of the work done, Etihad Airways is currently their largest component service client.

Because the facility is situated in an Abu Dhabi free zone, no taxes are applied to transactions involving aviation material entering or leaving the facility. It’s also crucial to remember that most of the world’s leading freight forwarders have a presence in Etihad Engineering’s warehouse, which facilitates and expedites all transactions.

Meeting and exceeding expectations

Etihad Engineering has over 35 years of aviation experience and has perfected the art of satisfying its clients’ needs. Customers can receive services and business models that are specifically tailored to them.

EYEng provides a “Repair and Hold” (R&H) programme where a customer can send a batch of unserviceable units to Etihad Engineering’s shop to be repaired and re-certified, and then stored at their warehouse (under consignment) ready to be delivered to the regional customers or location as advised by the component owner.

Since parts trading is not EYEng’s primary business, they forge solid partnerships with their clients to increase sales potential while bringing in plenty of business for their shops, as opposed to competing against them. Additionally, they have experience performing a comprehensive maintenance programme for operators on a variety of items, including W&Bs, electrical equipment, safety equipment, and galley inserts. Major airlines are confident enough to trust them with their units for repair and overhaul to keep their aircraft operating because of their excellent logistics capabilities and good turnaround time.

Etihad Engineering and OEMs

As part of its strategy, Etihad Engineering has been concentrating on developing solid connections and alliances with key OEMs around the industry.

Several renowned and trustworthy component OEMs, like Moog Inc. and ACME, have authorised Etihad Engineering as their repair facility. For the B787, B777, A330, A350, and soon-to-be A320 flight control actuation systems, the Moog Inc. shop offers repair and overhaul services. EYEng perform all repairs at their shop are covered by the OEM’s warranty.

Additionally, EYEng is an approved ACME repair station for the Middle East, Gulf, Africa, and Asia. ACME is a well-known maker of batteries and avionic instruments for Boeing aircraft. Because the facility is closer than the OEM, all operators and customers in the area are welcome to send their units to the workshops, ensuring the same standards, quality, and guarantees.

To become an authorised repair station in the area, Etihad Engineering is currently in talks with other top OEMs.
