A.P. Moller – Maersk has taken delivery of Tangier Mærsk, the first ship in a new six-vessel series, following a handover at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s facility in Jingjiang, China. The vessel represents the initial addition in a programme focused on renewing Maersk’s mid-size container fleet.

Each vessel in the series offers a capacity of 9,000 TEU and is fitted with dual-fuel engines capable of operating on methanol, reflecting the company’s continued focus on alternative fuel technologies. Following delivery, Tangier Mærsk will begin its first commercial deployment by calling at Shanghai before joining Maersk’s TP15 service, which operates between East Asia and the US Gulf Coast through the Panama Canal.
The handover of the vessel was completed approximately three months ahead of the original schedule. Additional ships from the series are expected to be delivered later this year, with the final vessel scheduled to follow in early 2027.
