Damen Shipyards Group and Folla Maritime have unveiled their new joint venture, Damen Folla, during this year’s Aqua Nor exhibition in Trondheim. The new brand identity reflects the next stage in the collaboration, which is dedicated to providing sustainable, high-quality vessel solutions tailored to the aquaculture industry.
The creation of Damen Folla follows Damen’s acquisition of a majority stake in Folla Maritime, announced in April. Folla Maritime brings decades of expertise in aluminium workboat construction, while Damen adds its global network, offshore knowledge, and proven capabilities in building larger steel vessels. By combining their strengths, the partners can now offer a broader range of vessels to support the full aquaculture value chain – from nearshore work to offshore service operations.
“Damen Folla represents a new joint force for sustainable aquaculture solutions. With this joint venture, we unite local know-how with global scale. This enables us to provide tailor-made solutions, from agile aluminium workboats to larger service vessels operating in rough offshore conditions.”
Jeroen van den Berg, Aquaculture and Fishing Product Director for Damen.
“Our aluminium boats remain at the core of what we do. Partnering with Damen opens new opportunities for larger, more complex projects, something we’re seeing growing demand for.”
Otto Sjølien CEO at Folla Maritime.
As a first milestone under the new name, the partners are presenting a preview of their Aquaculture Service Vessel (AQSV) 2813. The hybrid vessel (2–3 MWh capacity) offers a 160 m² working deck equipped with three large cranes, making it versatile for a wide range of tasks such as net handling, anchor work, ROV operations, towing, and transport. With dynamic positioning (DP) capability, a bollard pull of 280 kN, and a design that anticipates future sustainability requirements, Damen Folla notes the AQSV 2813 sets a new benchmark for safe and efficient offshore aquaculture operations. The vessel will be officially launched soon.
The ship also features quiet and comfortable crew accommodations, designed to support extended periods at sea.
Both companies bring strong track records to the partnership. Damen has previously delivered vessels such as the Volt Processor to the Norwegian market, and its LUV 2510 series has become a proven solution in UK aquaculture. Meanwhile, Folla Maritime has recently supplied vessels to Nova Sea and Vega Sjøfarm, including hybrid and fully electric aluminium workboats.
