The Gothenburg region has once again secured the top position as the Nordic region’s leading logistics location, according to the Swedish industry publication Dagens Logistik. In its latest assessment, the publication points to the Port of Gothenburg as a pivotal gateway for international trade and a primary driver behind the region’s continued strength as a logistics hub.
“We are pleased with the recognition, which we see as confirmation of the port’s importance and the region’s joint efforts to build a strong and innovative freight hub. The port is central to the region’s role as a logistics location, and over the past year its position has been strengthened both in Sweden and internationally. Not least through an expanded network of shipping services and continued rail development linking the port to inland destinations, resulting in record volumes in 2025, increased market shares, and a strengthened role for the port as a hub for Nordic trade with the world.”
– Jacob Minnhagen, Senior Market Development Manager at the Port of Gothenburg.
In determining the ranking, Dagens Logistik evaluated a wide range of criteria related to infrastructure and operational capacity. These included the flexibility, accessibility and sustainability of transport systems such as road and rail networks, port facilities, air cargo capacity and intermodal terminals. The assessment also took into account freight volumes moving to and from the region, trade conditions for imports and exports, geographic proximity to major population and consumer markets, and the presence of established logistics operations. Access to skilled labour, as well as research and educational resources, also formed part of the overall evaluation.
“We have long maintained close collaboration with Swedavia Landvetter Airport, Business Region Gothenburg and other stakeholders across the region. Together, we are working to further increase our attractiveness for logistics establishments, and we continue to see growing interest both around the port and across the wider region.”
– Jacob Minnhagen
The Port of Gothenburg plays a central role not only within the region but across the Nordic market as a whole. It serves as Scandinavia’s largest port, handling approximately 20 per cent of Sweden’s foreign trade and more than half of the country’s container traffic. The port accommodates a broad spectrum of cargo, including energy products, vehicles, RoRo units and containerised goods, and operates as a full-service hub with round-the-clock connections to global markets.
In addition to being home to the Nordic region’s largest container terminal and largest car/RoRo port, the port is supported by an extensive rail system, with more than 30 daily rail shuttles providing direct links across Sweden and Norway. Combined with strong road and air connections, this integrated infrastructure underpins Gothenburg’s position as a key logistics centre for the Nordic region.
The ranking, which has been compiled for 26 years, has seen the Gothenburg region claim first place on 25 occasions. Since 2024, the scope of the list has expanded from identifying Sweden’s leading logistics locations to recognising the best across the Nordic region. In this year’s results, the Öresund region and the Stockholm region placed second and third, followed by Oslo, the Baltics, Helsinki, Jönköping, Bothnian Bay and Central Jutland in Denmark.
