Swedish electric boat builder Candela has announced on 25th March 2021 that the company will be entering Swedish public transport sector with its vessel Candela P-30, through collaboration with Stockholm’s local authorities.
The P-30 will be a joint pilot project together with Region Stockholm, a group that is responsible for all publicly-financed public transport in Stockholm County. The vessel will be launched during 2022.
Carrying 30 passengers between stops at up to 60 km/h without emissions, wake, or noise pollution, P-30 will be about 50% less expensive to operate than traditional ferries. With an energy usage per passenger that is equal to that of a hybrid fuel bus, P-30 is not only a replacement for today’s diesel ferries but also a compelling alternative to cars and buses.
According to Candela, the P-30 is the world’s first electric hydrofoil shuttle ferry.
The electric hydrofoil technology can be applied to a wide range of vessels, from 12 person taxi boats to 300 passenger ships. P-30 has a flexible interior with space for up to 30 commuters. An automated mechanical ramp allows easy access for wheelchairs, bikes and others needing extra space.
Candela has been manufacturing electric leisure boat and its Candela Seven, the world’s first and only electric foiling boat, has been in serial production since 2019 and is currently the best-selling electric boat in Europe.
