Tankoa Yachts is expanding its industrial operations through the continued integration of its facilities in Genoa and Civitavecchia, creating a unified production model designed to support the construction of larger superyachts and increase overall build capacity.
The shipyard’s Civitavecchia site, located within the port area and spanning more than 34,000 square metres, has become a central part of Tankoa’s manufacturing strategy. The facility currently handles key early-stage construction activities, including steel fabrication, onboard systems installation and preliminary outfitting work, all carried out under the company’s established engineering and quality procedures.
After completion of these initial construction phases, hulls are transported overland before being loaded onto a floating barge and transferred to Genoa. There, Tankoa completes the final outfitting process, commissioning, sea trials and yacht delivery. By maintaining oversight across both facilities, the company aims to ensure consistency in technical execution and build standards throughout each project.
The first transfer between the two sites took place in July 2025, marking a significant operational milestone for the yard. Activity has since accelerated, with four further transfers already planned during 2026. At the end of March, two yachts measuring 50 and 55 metres were transported together aboard a single floating barge from Civitavecchia to Genoa. Additional movements are expected between late spring and early summer, with further transfers scheduled later in the year as construction progresses across the fleet.
Tankoa is currently managing seven yachts under construction at the Civitavecchia facility, with projects ranging from 50 to 72 metres. The lineup includes both semi-custom and fully custom builds, demonstrating the yard’s ability to oversee multiple technically demanding projects at the same time. Upcoming milestones include the keel-laying of a 61-metre yacht, steel cutting for a new 72-metre project and engine installation aboard a 50-metre unit.
The company also plans to broaden the operational role of the Civitavecchia yard in the coming years. Future development is expected to include more advanced outfitting capabilities, along with launch procedures and additional support for sea trials.
Alongside its industrial expansion, Tankoa is continuing to strengthen ties with the surrounding region through investment in local expertise, suppliers and workforce development. Approximately 300 people are currently involved across direct employment and supply chain activities linked to the site, with further growth supported through collaboration with technical schools and specialist training organisations.
At the same time, the shipyard is increasing the amount of work carried out internally, reducing dependence on subcontractors in favour of greater operational control, improved safety procedures and consistent production standards.
Tankoa continues to work closely with institutions in both Genoa and Civitavecchia as part of a wider strategy aimed at supporting the regional marine industry while developing a stronger long-term talent pipeline. Partnerships with vocational schools, universities and regional authorities are intended to create new opportunities for younger professionals entering the sector and help address the ongoing shortage of specialised skills within the yachting industry.
The development of the Civitavecchia operation forms part of Tankoa’s broader long-term growth strategy. Since 2020, when production was based solely at its historic Genoa shipyard with around 30 employees and capacity for one large yacht per year, the company has expanded into a dual-site operation employing more than 120 direct staff and around 600 indirect collaborators. Its yacht portfolio has also grown from projects between 45 and 80 metres, while annual delivery capacity has increased to between three and four yachts per year as the builder strengthens its position within the global superyacht market.
