Attica Group has expanded its digitalisation strategy by working with ABB to introduce an advanced real-time monitoring solution across its ferry fleet, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing efforts to improve operational performance and efficiency.
The project will see ABB’s OneBox ABB Ability™ Marine Signals Monitoring platform integrated with both ABB and third-party systems, bringing together operational, electrical and fuel consumption data into a single dashboard. By providing a centralised view of fleet performance, the solution is designed to give Attica Group greater visibility over its operations and support faster, more informed decision-making.
As one of Greece’s largest ferry operators, Attica Group runs a fleet of 33 vessels carrying millions of passengers every year. The company has more than 30 years of experience in the Greek passenger shipping market and continues to focus on maintaining reliable services while enhancing operational efficiency and environmental performance.
The rollout follows a successful pilot programme on SUPERFAST I and SUPERFAST II, with the system now installed on 17 vessels as the wider implementation continues. The technology is expected to enable real-time monitoring of key operational data, allowing crews and shore-based teams to identify performance trends, detect potential issues at an early stage and take proactive action before they impact schedules or passenger services. Ongoing analysis of fuel consumption and electrical performance is also expected to help optimise efficiency across the fleet.
“OneBox represents a key milestone in the evolution of our fleet monitoring capabilities. Following the successful pilot project on SUPERFAST I and SUPERFAST II and the currently installation in 17 vessels so far, we are progressing toward full real-time performance visibility via a single integrated dashboard. This empowers us to proactively address operational issues and continuously optimize fuel consumption on every voyage.”
– George Anagnostou, Chief Operations Officer of Attica Group.
The digital platform has been designed to work alongside Attica Group’s existing infrastructure, allowing it to be introduced without extensive system modifications or disruption to day-to-day operations. Its scalable approach also provides the flexibility to support future developments as the operator continues its wider digital transformation programme.
“This project shows how fleet-wide digitalization can be implemented in a practical and cost-effective way. With ABB’s digital solutions, Attica Group achieved precise fuel tracking, optimized electrical power management, and continuous performance analysis. From a service perspective, this ensures proactive support, improved reliability, and long-term operational confidence for ferry operators.”
– Antonis Asimakopoulos, Service Manager, ABB’s Marine & Ports division.
