Italian yacht design studio Nauta has completed an extensive interior refresh aboard the 40-metre Abeking & Rasmussen sailing yacht 4K, formerly known as Alithia, breathing new life into the well-travelled bluewater cruiser while preserving the character that has defined her for more than two decades.
Since her launch in 2002, 4K has established herself as a capable long-range sailing yacht, logging tens of thousands of nautical miles on voyages across the world’s oceans. Her distinctive exterior styling remains striking today, with features including a plumb bow, clean sheerline and raised coachroof that were considered ahead of their time when she was first delivered. Combined with her steel hull and powerful sloop rig, the yacht continues to reflect her pedigree as a serious ocean-going vessel.
The latest project focused on revitalising the yacht’s interior rather than undertaking a complete transformation. While the original design made excellent use of the yacht’s generous internal volume and abundant natural light through wraparound saloon windows and hull glazing, years of extensive cruising had inevitably softened the crisp aesthetic of the original décor.

Nauta’s approach centred on restoring that sense of freshness while introducing carefully considered contemporary updates that will help keep the interior relevant for years to come. The work extended throughout much of the yacht, including the owner’s suite, navigation station and principal living areas, with refreshed finishes, furnishings and detailing enhancing the onboard environment without compromising the yacht’s original identity.
“The 4K refit project is the result of a strong collaborative effort between the Owner, Crew, Brokerage team and Nauta, all working together with shared commitment and momentum to meet the Owner’s expectations. The design process was driven by a careful and conscious selection of proposals and interventions, developed within a tight schedule to ensure both efficiency and a successful outcome.”
– Martino Majno, co-Director at Nauta.
“The key challenge lay in harmonising existing features with new design solutions, combining refreshed materials, refined detailing and high-end furniture and décor to achieve a contemporary atmosphere. Soft finishes and bespoke craftsmanship are paired with a fresh and welcoming colour palette, creating an unexpected environment that fully unlocks the vessel’s potential. The generous layout and spatial arrangement, enhanced by natural light and sophisticated design solutions, offer guests a renewed and intimate onboard experience.”
– Guido Valtorta, co-Director at Nauta.
