Becoming the only local to China airline currently providing direct flights to Saipan, Hong Kong Airlines is excited to announce that it will be starting its operations again. Both the airports in Saipan and Hong Kong hosted ceremonies to celebrate the anniversary.
On its inaugural journey, 292 passengers and crew were transported aboard an A330 aircraft. Mr. Jeff Sun, a seasoned captain and Chairman of Hong Kong Airlines, piloted the aircraft. The flight arrived at Saipan International Airport on schedule after taking off from Hong Kong International Airport on April 28.
“We are thrilled to bring back this beautiful holiday destination to our travellers. Hong Kong Airlines is currently the only carrier in the Greater Bay Area providing this exclusive route. Since its initial launch in 2016, our Saipan service has been very popular with travellers, not only due to the island’s natural allure but also because of Saipan’s visa-free policy, which facilitates easy travel. We are also exploring the opportunity to add frequency to our current twice-weekly flight service.
Since our restructuring was completed last April, we have regained a healthy operating track over the last year and reconnected with the world by gradually resuming routes and opening new destinations. We have been actively expanding our fleet and recruiting locally and globally to meet the demands of our business recovery and growth. Currently, our route network covers close to 30 destinations, and the average passenger load factor has returned to 85%.”
Mr Jeff Sun, Chairman of Hong Kong Airlines.
In order to offer a wider variety of travel alternatives and uphold Hong Kong’s status as a significant hub for international aviation, the airline will keep looking into new destinations, making it a desirable place to depart from and transit through.
“We are pleased to welcome Hong Kong Airlines back to The Marianas with this first direct flight between Hong Kong and The Marianas since the pandemic. There is a real feeling of anticipation and optimism in the government and especially the private sector with the launch of these flights. We are excited about the positive bookings and believe this bodes well for the future of these flights and the greater expansion of connectivity with the Hong Kong Airlines network.”
Mr Christopher A. Concepcion, Managing Director of MVA.
“This inaugural flight is a welcome visit to our pleasant and relaxing islands. With much thanks and excitement, Governor Palacios, the People of the CNMI, and I again express our greetings to everyone to the beautiful and friendly Northern Mariana Islands.”
Mr David M. Apatang, Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
