A firm order for 150 fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX aircraft was announced by Akasa Air during WINGS India 2024, Asia’s largest civil aviation exhibition.
The airline’s ambitions for both domestic and international growth will be solidified by the most recent purchase, which consists of 737 MAX 10 and 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft. The carrier will get a consistent supply of aircraft through 2032.
Akasa Air became the first Indian airline in the history of civil aviation to reach an order book of over 200 aircraft in just 17 months after starting operations with this announcement. This historic aircraft order demonstrates Boeing’s faith in the carrier’s future and attests to the airline’s strong financial standing.
“These additions to our fleet will help us bolster the strength of our operations as we expand our footprint and foray into international skies in the very near future. Each addition to our fleet brings us closer to our purpose of connecting people, places, and cultures. We are confident in our ability to be able to serve millions of satisfied travellers across the globe, as we step into the next phase of our growth
We are at a cusp where it is natural for our ecosystem to celebrate our financial stability, growth potential and market share. However, I am most proud of what Akasa and its employees have been able to achieve in terms of reliability and service excellence while pursuing the highest standards of safety in global aviation. This underscores our growth philosophy of expanding in step with the laser focussed delivery of industry leading customer experience”
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO, Akasa Air.
Akasa Air placed an order for 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2021. Four more Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft were ordered in June 2023. With this new agreement in January 2024, the airline will have 226 aircraft on order. Over the next eight years, Akasa Air will receive delivery of 204 aircraft, increasing its present fleet of 22 aircraft.
In keeping with the airline’s dedication to sustainability, the 737 MAX series offers a 20% reduction in carbon emissions over its predecessors while also offering a greater range and improved fuel efficiency. Furthermore, compared to replacement aircraft, the 737 MAX has a 50% smaller noise footprint. In addition to offering the lowest seat-mile costs for a single-aisle aircraft and excellent dispatch dependability, the 737 MAX family significantly improves passenger comfort. Along with offering plenty of legroom and improved comfort, the chairs also feature USB ports so that users can conveniently charge their devices. Having a uniform fleet will help Akasa Air meet its goal of being the most trustworthy airline in India by simplifying operations and enhancing reliability.
