In order to give passengers a premium experience when flying, WestJet is temporarily upgrading a number of its recently acquired Boeing 737 aircraft. Preferred seats, additional elbow room, priority boarding, special snacks and drinks, and a future travel credit are among the improvements that will be made starting on October 27 in an effort to improve the traveller experience.
In order to give Canadians dependable and reasonably priced access to more domestic and international destinations, WestJet will keep expanding its fleet. The airline is continuing to use an increasing number of aircraft that are now equipped differently from the rest of its fleet in order to meet the rising demand. This will include aircraft from Sunwing Airlines in 2025, as well as aircraft from its former ultra-low-cost carrier Swoop and the freshly purchased, leased Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft that was revealed earlier this year.
WestJet’s capacity to service more passengers across its network is being substantially improved by the addition of these aircraft. In addition to increasing total capacity, this expansion makes more planes available for rebooking passengers impacted by irregular operations. Travel plans are less likely to be disrupted as a result, ensuring that passengers arrive at their destinations smoothly and on time.
“We’ve listened to our guests and understand that these aircraft that are configured differently don’t yet deliver the experience they expect when travelling with us, especially for our Premium guests. Updating and refreshing the interior cabins of our new-to-WestJet 737s is essential for our integration efforts and overall guest satisfaction. While we are working diligently, these upgrades will take time. In the meantime, we are committed to making temporary improvements wherever possible and keeping our guests informed about our progress.”
Colleen Tynan, Vice President of Guest Experience at WestJet.
In order to help Premium passengers during this transition, WestJet is making short-term improvements to aircraft that do not yet have a dedicated Premium class. These short-term upgrades will consist of preferred seating, a digital block on middle seats for more comfort, priority boarding, exclusive meals and beverages, and future travel credit for those who have already purchased a premium seat.
Guests will see a “Cabin transformation” indicator during the WestJet.com booking process when they book a seat on an aircraft that has a temporary Premium cabin. When making a reservation through a travel agency, corporate travel arranger, or online, guests are advised to check with them to find out if the flight will be on a plane that is changing its cabin.
