The fastest-growing airline in Europe, Wizz Air has announced that it will construct a second training facility in Rome, Italy, in 2024. The new, more than 2,500-square-meter building will be located just a short stroll from Rome Fiumicino Airport’s T1 and will house three full-flight simulators that are used to regularly train more than 4,800 Wizz Air pilots each year. The market has received more than 38 million euros in investment overall.
The two-story building containing the briefing and theoretical training rooms will occupy 1290 square metres, while the simulator hall, housing three state-of-the-art full flight Airbus A320 family simulators, will cover roughly 600 square metres. Up to 135 pilots can be accommodated in each simulator each month, guaranteeing recurrent training for over 4800 pilots annually. The facility is scheduled to open for theoretical training in May 2024 with the simulators being installed towards the end of the year.
This is Wizz Air’s second training facility. The first one, which featured three full-flight Airbus A320 family simulators from the CAE 7000X series, one stationary simulator, and a training tool for cabin emergency procedures, was introduced in Budapest five years ago. The facility enables Wizz Air to train 1,500 flight attendants annually in addition to up to 300 cadet pilots receiving initial training at the same time. Cadets and seasoned pilots who participate in recurrent training have accrued almost 83,000 flight hours in the five years since the facility opened, or about nine and a half years of flying on three simulators.
“Investing in our greatest asset – our employees – we proudly announce the launch of our new training center in Rome. This marks Wizz Air’s continued commitment to the highest standards of safety and continious training with state-of-the-art equipment. At the same time, through this investment we continue to provide local direct job opportunities, building on our current team of 1000 WIZZ employees in Italy.”
Robert Carey, Wizz Air’s President.
