Allseas has secured a contract from Western LNG to install the offshore section of the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) pipeline, a key component of a major natural gas export project in north-west Canada.
The subsea pipeline will create the final connection between the 700-kilometre Prince Rupert Gas Transmission system and the planned Ksi Lisims LNG floating export facility on Pearse Island, located off the Pacific coast of British Columbia near the Alaska border. Once completed, the infrastructure will enable Canadian natural gas to be transported from inland production areas to the export terminal.
Under the agreement, Allseas will install around 50 kilometres of 36-inch and 48-inch concrete-weight coated pipeline linking the onshore network to the floating LNG facility. Offshore installation activities are expected to begin in 2029.
The work will be carried out using the pipelay vessels Solitaire and Sandpiper, with operations taking place in water depths extending from the shoreline to approximately 450 metres. The installation programme will involve a range of technically complex activities, including multiple shore crossings, shore pull-ins, above-water tie-ins, trenching, route stabilisation, and both pre- and post-lay span rectification. The combination of challenging nearshore engineering requirements and the project’s remote location is expected to make the installation campaign particularly demanding.
The contract award highlights Allseas’ experience in delivering complex subsea pipeline installations in challenging offshore environments. The company develops, builds and operates its own technologies in-house, enabling it to combine engineering expertise with proven offshore execution capabilities for large-scale marine infrastructure projects.
Once operational, the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission system is expected to provide Canadian natural gas producers with an additional export route, supporting greater access to international markets while contributing to long-term energy security and economic growth in British Columbia.
